JOB SUMMARY: The Travel Trade Manager position is primarily responsible for promoting Santa Barbara to domestic and international receptive tour operators, tour operators and MICE planners. This includes generating definite room night bookings, tracking clients, organizing Visit Santa Barbara’s presence at trade shows, client events, sales missions and receptions, and escorting on-site tours of Santa Barbara. This position also serves as the liaison to the cruise ship industry.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Solicit new sales opportunities in the international and domestic Travel Industry and Adhoc large scale sporting events.
Manage contracted International Agencies of Record.
Produce group business leads, FIT and international meeting leads for the hospitality industry and maintain follow-up contact with clients. This is accomplished through servicing calls that come to VSB and by soliciting new business through, sales calls, direct mail, newsletters, and trade shows.
Increase sales leads to non-hotel VSB members by working directly with confirmed Santa Barbara group clients on conference servicing needs.
Manage all arrangements and escort tour operators, travel agents, and receptive operators on site inspection trips and FAM tours of Santa Barbara to familiarize them with hotels, restaurants, attractions, and services.
Organize sales trips to tour operators, travel agents, and MICE planners, as well as participation in tour operator receptions and trade shows.
In partnership with the City of Santa Barbara Waterfront Department, maintain strong cruise ship visitation and drive consideration of Santa Barbara as a return overnight trip.
Assist in the development of group marketing reports, including monthly and quarterly activity summaries.
Identify key industry trends and potential impacts to the destination.
Collaborate and develop relationship with other CVB colleagues to learn trends, issues and performance metrics
Sells Sales Department cooperative opportunities.
All other duties as assigned by the Director of Sales and President/CEO.
BA/BS with an emphasis in marketing, business, or communications (or equivalent in directly related work experience) preferred.
Previous experience in a sales or sales support position in a hotel sales, chamber of commerce, CVB, destination management, travel agency, or tour operator environment. Strong organization and time management skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects successfully with minimum supervision.
Exceptional presentation skills, written and verbal communication skills.
High attention to detail, accurate documentation, and follow-through.
Ability to be tactful and courteous and display appropriate public image when representing Visit Santa Barbara.
Knowledge and familiarity of Santa Barbara.
Strong writing, editing, researching, and fact-checking skills.
Computer proficient in Microsoft Office, Internet, and database programs.
Ability to travel independently to domestic and international destinations via commercial airlines.
Must have use of vehicle for use while on Bureau business.
Must be free to travel as needed to carry out Bureau goals.
Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. and transport Bureau equipment and materials for use in Bureau programs.
Must have valid passport, California Driver’s License, and auto insurance.
Work hours vary and may require evening and weekends.
